How it works

You weigh them. Kanid does the rest.

There is no canine nutrition to learn here. There is a scale, once a week, and a number waiting for you.

Illustration of a beagle sitting and looking up, waiting to be fed.
  1. The history in the app: Rocky’s last five weigh-ins one under the other, coming down from 35.6 kg to 34.2 kg.

    01

    You weigh them

Once a week is enough. Kanid keeps the history and tells you whether the pace is a healthy one.

  2. The ration in the app: 852 kcal a day, two meals, 245 g a day, 430 kcal already served, and the food they are worked out from.

    02

    Kanid works out the ration

Resting energy on the target weight, adjusted for life stage, neutering, activity and body condition.

  3. Today’s meals in the app: the first one served and ticked off, the second one still to go, and the drop-down with the workings.

    03

You serve and tick it off

The grams split across their meals. Tick each one and you always know what is left for today.

The method

On the weight you want. Not the one they have.

Feed a 34 kg dog like a 34 kg dog and you are feeding the excess. Kanid works the ration out on the target weight. That single decision is the whole argument.

  1. 01Resting energy70 × kg^0.75
  2. 02Maintenance factor× life stage · neutering · activity · body condition
  3. 03Energy for the day= kcal / day
  4. 04Their actual food÷ kcal per 100 g → grams

The usual way

On today’s 34.2 kg

70 × 34.2^0.75 = 990 kcal × 1.6

455g a day

Maintenance for a 34.2 kg dog. Rocky stays at 34.2 kg.

Kanid

On the 28.0 kg target

70 × 28^0.75 = 852 kcal × 1.0

245g a day

Energy for the dog he is becoming. Rocky loses weight.

The gap210 ga day apart. That is the distance between a goal and an intention.

What moves the factor

  • Life stage
  • Neutered
  • Activity
  • Body condition, 1–9
  • Weight goal

The body condition, the part you judge

Kanid never guesses this one: you pick it in the app from three silhouettes, and it shifts the factor by up to 20 %. Rocky is a 7 out of 9.

Rocky is the app’s own demo dog: 34.2 kg, large, adult, neutered, medium activity, body condition 7 of 9. Figures for a dry food at 350 kcal per 100 g — the default Kanid uses until you scan the pack. Grams are rounded to the nearest five.

What it does

The free part is not a demo.

Weight, ideal range, routines, training and streaks cost nothing and do not expire. Premium is where the ration in grams, the food scanner and the health record live. Here is the split, before you download it.

Questions

What people ask before downloading.

My dog is a mix and I don’t know what size that makes him.

You don’t pick a breed, you pick a size band by weight: toy, small, medium, large or giant. Kanid works from that band, their body condition and what the scale says — never from a breed guess.

Do I need a special scale?

No. Any bathroom scale does it: weigh yourself, pick the dog up, weigh again and subtract. For a large dog that is the usual way at home, and it is accurate enough for a weekly reading.

Do I have to pay to find out how much to feed?

The exact ration in grams is Premium, and we say so up front. Free you get the weight log with the ideal range, the routines, the walks, thirteen training techniques, the achievements and the advice — with no trial and no countdown.

What if I have two dogs?

Every dog gets their own plan, weight and routines, and you switch with one tap. More than one dog is Premium; if the subscription lapses they are locked, never deleted.

What happens to my dog’s photo?

It stays on your phone. It is never uploaded to any server. The photos you scan — a food label, a record card — are sent to be read and then dropped, without being stored.

How do I cancel?

Settings › your name › Subscriptions, on your iPhone, at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Refunds are handled by Apple. Nothing you logged is lost: the paid features simply stop showing.

The limit

Kanid is not your vet.

Nothing you see here is a diagnosis or a treatment. Portions and advice are guidance based on general formulas; your dog may have conditions that change them completely. At any sign of illness, pain or sudden weight change, see a vet. If your dog is in danger, don’t waste time with the app.

When something looks like a health problem, Kanid says so and sends you to a vet. It is up here and not in the small print because it is a reason to trust it.

Three things it will never do

  • Diagnose.
  • Recommend medication.
  • Read a wound or a lump from a photo.
